Situated amongst the olive trees and citrus groves that once brought it prosperity, The Balagne stretches from Calvi to Ile Rousse with its sandy beaches, its wild creeks and also its hinterland , where each perched village hides its treasures.

From earliest times, the village of Lumio was the centre of a cult dedicated to the solar star. The Romans christened the mountain " Ortus Solis", the area where the sun rises.Situated around its large Baroque church, this characterful village, forms a crescent above the marvellous Calvi gulf.

• 30 km away, the beautiful nature reserve of Scandola with its spectacular coastal scenery, inaccessible by land, is classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
